Project explores the process of adapting to a new city through personal associations. After relocating to Tbilisi, Georgia, the artist noticed similarities between the city and her hometown, Tolyatti, Russia. Perhaps due to shared Soviet urban planning, but also as part of the natural search for familiar anchors in an unfamiliar place. These associations were expressed through simple embroidered drawings on city fences – childlike suns, grids reminiscent of notebook doodles – spontaneous marks reflecting subconscious thoughts. The project documents these embroidered interventions in their urban environment, visualising the overlapping layers of memory and experience that shape the perception of place.
Tracing Thoughts consists of four embroidery pieces placed in urban spaces and their photographic documentation.
The photographs were exhibited as part of Cycle Exhibition in Togliatti Museum of Art in 2023.
